Early Learning and Childcare (including Government Funded Sessions)

Welcome! We believe that children are born with a natural desire to explore and learn. When we follow their lead, we can offer an environment that is stimulating and exciting. The result? Happy, relaxed children who learn at their own pace.

About Wise Owls Nursery

We are more than just a nursery. We are a small independent business and key to our service is delivery of a home from home environment where children and families feel part of our family. Caring for a maximum of 36 children a day at our nursery enables us to tailor our service to the needs of each child. Our environment is carefully planned, and our curriculum structured to ensure the individual touch is of utmost importance.

We understand that your needs for early years care and education are as unique as your child. We are therefore open from 0730-1800 – Monday to Friday for 48 weeks of the year.  We offer a range of part time sessions and full days.

Owlets

Under 24 months

Owlets are baby owls who have not left the security of their nest yet. Our baby room provides all the security that your very own owlet needs. We know that the decision to leave your owlet without you is a tough one, however, when you come and see our home-from-home environment, you'll know that you've made a wise choice! We have spaces for 9 babies in our nursery with 3-4 members of staff

Branchers

24 months to those not yet receiving funded childcare

Branchers have the courage to leave their nests out onto the branch, but they still need close supervision as they are not yet full confident on their feet. Until they are 2 years old, there is a 1:3 adult to child ratio, which moves up to 1:5 once they are two. The rooms are close together so little ones will get to socialise with each other and if a brancher conks out, there is a quiet room for sleeping. There's easy access to our wonderful garden over the "trip trap" bridge! We can have 10 two-year-olds.

Fledglings

3 to 5 year olds 1140 hours funded childcare

Fledglings are ready to take flight, once they are in receipt of the 1140 funded hours, and the 3-5 year old room is no exception. We encourage free-flow from inside to outside and with our regular Wednesday and Thursday Forest school sessions, the children will create their own learning opportunities under the expert guidance of our practitioners. We can have up to 27 children between the ages of 2 and 5. The number of Fledglings we have on an average day is about 20.

What’s so WISE about Wise Owls?

We recognise that we are World Citizens. This means we recognise that we are part of a global community, whilst remembering and retaining our own unique heritage and culture.

We contribute to our Intergenerational Projects, creating a sense of community and bridging the gap between the young and the young at heart.

We place emphasis on Speaking and Communication as this is the foundation for all learning.

We have a strong Environmental Ethos and learn how we are the future, and we must care for our planet, both locally and more globally.

Funded Childcare

1140 hours for 3-5s and eligible 2-year-olds

You can use your funded childcare at Wise Owls or at a combination of Wise Owls and another nursery or childminder.
Children who have been attending Wise Owls privately will get priority for our much-sought-after places.
After that, they will be on a first come first served basis and if we do not have the hours you require, we may be able to offer alternative hours or place you on the waiting list until a space is available.
We keep our numbers low to allow for high adult: child ratios and so that we can follow each child’s individual interests and needs.
There are no charges for funded children (e.g. registration fee or deposit.) with the exception of a second meal if your child is in for a full day (children receive one funded meal a day.)

Or perhaps you have a 2-year-old who would benefit from dropping in for shorter sessions.
These hours are for you. However, we can only accommodate this if we keep in ratio, so this is on an as available basis.
We can extend our day from 7.30am to 5.45pm by special arrangement.
